In a world rapidly shifting to digital health solutions, how do we make sure we’re using technology to increase, not restrict, access to systems and services? In this episode, Biruh Abere, senior technical director for the USAID Digital Health Activity in Ethiopia; Romain Tohouri, senior health management information systems advisor; and Stephanie Watson-Grant, director of the USAID-funded Country Health Information Systems and Data Use (CHISU) program, explore how strategic vision, strong partnerships, and adaptive digital health approaches are necessary to build more equitable health systems.
In Ethiopia, JSI works with the Ministry of Health to transform medication management, equip health extension workers with digital tools, and champion women in digital health.

Health commodities like medicines and vaccines reach communities thanks to logistics and data systems, and the people who use information from those systems to make critical decisions at the right time. In this episode, Laila Akhlaghi, a senior technical advisor specializing in forecasting; Philip Kamutenga, chief of party for the Global Health Supply Chain project in Tanzania; and Wendy Prosser, a senior technical advisor focusing on immunization supply chains, break down the elements of supply chains and share strategies for building agile systems that get health commodities where they’re needed, when they’re needed. Health systems are complex, dynamic, and constantly changing. But people are the heart of every system. Building effective, people-centered health systems depends on everyone understanding how their work contributes to the whole. In this episode, Lea Ayers LaFave, senior technical consultant; Alton Mpungu, senior technical advisor for World Education’s Bantwana Portfolio and co-director of JSI's Center for Capacity Strengthening; and Jessica Posner, co-director of the HIV and Infectious Disease Center and lead for JSI’s person-centered care work, discuss the interconnected relationships behind every health system and why understanding them is essential to working toward more equitable health care.

These days, localization can seem like a buzzword, but it's more than a trend. Community-driven efforts lead to stronger, more sustainable health outcomes. In this episode, Durrell Fox, a community health worker and consultant at JSI; Dyness Kasungami, director for the Secretariat of the Global Child Health Task Force and lead for JSI’s Reimagining Technical Assistance (RTA) initiative; and Patience Ndlovu, former director of the Bantwana Initiative, discuss the impact of shifting decision-making power and resources to communities and local partners.
